This items material was miss identified. It's not stone, it's cast iron and painted black. It depicts one of the sections of the Vishwanatha Temple in Khajuraho, India. Most likely it was a souvenir from Gardner´s travels.
It measures 2 5/8 high 1 1/4 wide and 5/8 thick.
