Dr. Gardner spent his lifetime traveling and studying folklore and anthropology and was internationally known for his writings on witchcraft. He was acclaimed by the British press as "King of the Witches" and Gardnerian doctrines still strongly influence the practice of modern witchcraft both here and abroad.  His collection of witchcraft items included ritual and ceremonial objects and jewelry dating as far back as Egyptian times, as well as items owned by the notorious "Witchfinders General", Matthew Hopkins.  The collection, the most famous of it's kind in the world, was housed in Gardner's museum on the Isle of Man, a tiny island off the coast of England.

Following Gardner's death at sea in 1964, Monique and Campbell Wilson, witches themselves, and High Priest and Priestess of their coven, were bequeathed the museum which they operated for nearly a decade.

White witchcraft, which focuses on constructive ideas, such as healing the sick, was practiced openly by the Wilsons and by other covens on the Isle of Man. When the Wilson's began to dabble in black magic, they became unpopular with the Manx islanders and were forced to leave the island and to liquidate their collection of mystical treasures. The Ripley " Believe It or Not" Organization acquired the collection and established several witchcraft museums in the United States.  (Reprinted from the material that comes with the item packet.)
